## Outlook External Email Warning Flag {#source-91c097e67fc6f325}

The Outlook External Email Flag is a setting in Exchange Online which adds an "External" tag to all emails that have originated outside the Exchange Organisation. This is designed to help end users detect spoofing, and phishing to prompt to exercise more care when opening emails or attachments.

The flag appears in the inbox list, with additional information about the email appearing as a banner in the ribbon.
