Snipe-IT overview
Overview of the shared CCM Snipe-IT asset management service, its integrations, and planned improvements.
Snipe-IT (SIT) is an open-source asset management system. Historically CCM has not mandated a single tool for IT Services. Rather than maintain a large sprawl of near-identical systems without corporate visibility, a shared SIT instance has been provisioned.
Approach
CCM uses the Full Multiple Company Support (FMCS) feature and LDAP Sync. Future enhancements will see us move from LDAP to SCIM.
We use Entra ID single sign-on via SAML 2.0 for authentication.
The service is hosted on an Azure VM (Standard B2pls v2, 2 vCPUs, 4 GiB memory, Ubuntu 24.04).
Exceptions
- Endeavour uses a different system at this time; there is no imperative to force a migration.
- Brindabella is running SIT separately and may migrate during the T3 holidays.
- Groves is running SIT separately but is planning to migrate.
- Chinchilla is waiting for its devices to be imported into the shared instance.
Automations
- On check-in and check-out, a webhook is sent to an Azure Automation runbook.
- Currently, this action only applies to check-ins where the status is set to Requires Repair.
Integrations
- Jitbit integrates with SIT for asset lookup.
- Jitbit also calls an external n8n webhook. Details to be completed.
To do
- SCIM integration.
- Further automations. These will need to query the SIT API because SIT has a significant limitation on automated actions against external systems.
