Integrating WimWizard with DeployR

Patch the Windows install.wim already stored in DeployR content with WimWizard. The sequence requires the image's full content path and uses it as both the input and output path.

Updating a Windows install.wim file that has been added to DeployR Content with the latest Microsoft updates is relatively trivial once WimWizard is installed. You will need the full path of the install.wim file that is uploaded to DeployR.

  • Open the DeployR webportal
  • Select DeployR>Content Items.
  • Select the Windows Image file to open the Content Item.
  • The "Relative path" shows the location of the content item in the DeployR installation location Content folder. e.g. D:\2Pint Software\DeployR\Content\c9a97974-97ad-4609-9cd8-4ecab974995f\1\install.wim

With the full path to the install.wim, run the following command.

.\WimWizard.ps1 -PatchExistingWim "<Full path to DeployR Content install.wim>" -OutputPath "<Full path to DeployR Content install.wim>" -Unattended

This does the following:

  • Detects the Windows version of the .wim. e.g. Windows 25H2 Education
  • Downloads and caches the latest versions of the following from the Microsoft Update Catalogue.
  • OS Cumulative Update (includes Servicing Stack Update)
  • .Net Framework Cumulative Update
  • Safe OS Dynamic Update (for WinRE)
  • Copies the install.wim file to a subfolder called WIMServicing_Work in the same location as the original install.wim
  • Mounts the temporary .wim file.
  • Patches WinRE with the latest servicing stack update and SafeOS update.
  • Patches the install.wim with the lates Cumulative Update and .Net Framework update.
  • Saves and dismounts temporary .wim.
  • Compresses and exports (copies) the updated .wim to the original install.wim location, effectively overwriting the original install.wim

Because the process effectively overwrites the original DeployR content file with the updated install.wim, there are no changes required to get DeployR to use the new file. It has no indication that anything has changed.
