Cache Server Requirements
- OS: Ubuntu 24.04
- NIC: 1Gbps minimum, 10Gbps recommended for larger sites.
- Only one NIC supported
- SR-IOV enabled on the VM NIC for best performance
- Assign a static IP and MAC address to the NIC
- Unverified source suggestion: a referenced document gives the Hyper-V static MAC range as 00-15-5d-01-80-00 to 00-15-5d-01-8F-FF. This range has not been confirmed here.
- The source explicitly invites correction of that MAC-range suggestion.
- CPU: 8 cores; 4 cores is practical at smaller sites
- RAM: 16GB; 8GB is practical at smaller sites.
- Configure Dynamic Memory to ensure optimal usage
- Startup RAM should be modest (2GB)
- Minimum can be lower (1GB)
- Maximum should be set to your desired max (8GB, 12GB etc.)
- Storage: Separate disks for OS and Cache Data
- OS: 50-100GB
- 40GB should be fine
- Data: 500GB storage is a recommended starting point.
- Because much of the content ages out 500GB should be sufficient for CCM purposes
- Do not re-use an existing VM
- Ensure the required endpoints are accessible.
- If you are using Palo Alto External Dynamic Lists or Fortinet External Threat Feeds these should already be covered.
